Park Gate local Sally Pantridge is a shining testament to how passion and community spirit doesn’t fade after 60, and she is dedicating her retirement to getting involved in fun and meaningful community activities.
Sally, who lives at Beck Lodge, recently joined forces with the Churchill team, helping to organise a talk by a representative from Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, a charity close to her heart. The event introduced Morgan, a trainee hearing dog, to Owners and visitors, whilst Sally shared her own personal experience living with deafness. Sally also taught guests some simple British Sign Language (BSL) in order to encourage greater inclusion and accessibility across the Lodge community.
Sally’s story with Hearing Dogs for Deaf People began when she was paired with Orla, her affectionate hearing dog. Over eight years, Orla’s companionship had a massive impact on Sally’s life. In support of the charity, Sally even abseiled down the Spinnaker Tower to raise money – the effort helped raise between £300-£400. Even after Orla’s passing in 2021, Sally continues to support the charity with ongoing volunteer efforts, contributing regularly to community days at Botley Village Hall and bringing people together through sign language practice and furry friends.
Churchill Living is proud to champion these opportunities for the over 60’s living at its Lodges, providing supportive environments where Owners like Sally can thrive, feel secure and make the most of their retirement by doing things they love, “The Churchill team have been incredibly supportive of my passion for deaf awareness.” Sally comments, “They’ve been so accommodating when it comes to communicating with me in ways that work for me, and hosting events in honour of Deaf Awareness week! It means a lot to know that they accept and encourage Owners like me to share our stories and experiences to help educate others”.
Sally’s story showcases how Churchill Living Owners can continue to live life to the fullest, encouraged to pursue their passions and are supported in championing causes that matter most to them. Whether it is by hosting awareness days, organising charity events or simply providing spaces for those conversations to take place. Sally’s story is just one example showing that age is no barrier when it comes to making a difference to the communities you are passionate about.
