We recently welcomed the charity Hourglass to a special ‘Raise a Cup’ event at Cleves Lodge in Haverhill, to help build awareness of the challenges many older people face and highlight ways to combat these issues.
Hourglass’ Community Fundraising Manager Penny Wilby joined Churchill Colleagues and the newly growing community of over 60s at Cleves Lodge for coffee and cake in the friendly communal lounge on Wednesday 10th June. As part of the charity’s ‘Raise a Cup’ initiative, the event was an opportunity to talk about Hourglass’ work as the only UK-wide charity dedicated to safer ageing.
It was one of over 80 ‘Raise a Cup’ events taking place at Churchill developments during May and June, as part of Churchill’s long-term partnership with Hourglass. This partnership has also seen Churchill commit to donating £400,000 of funding to the charity through the Churchill Foundation over three years, helping to strengthen the essential services Hourglass provides, including its 24/7 helpline and extensive network of frontline teams.
Commenting on the event in Haverhill, Penny Wilby said: “I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the new residents at Cleves Lodge and talking to them about how Hourglass is fighting to combat the abuse and exploitation of older people. It’s a fight we can’t win on our own, so we need companies and individuals to help us wherever they can. That’s why it’s great to have not just the financial support Churchill is providing, but also the backing of so many people who live and work in developments like Cleves Lodge.”
Churchill’s Divisional Marketing Lead Charlie Gray added: “Our developments are more than just places to live, they’re warm, welcoming communities where people look out for one another, and it’s been great to see our new residents coming together and embracing this at Cleves Lodge. This event was a perfect opportunity to celebrate our new community, and to talk about the importance of connection and safety for the over 60s.”
