Hourglass ‘Raise a Cup’ event at Liberty Lodge helps raise awareness of Safer Ageing

Churchill Living’s Liberty Lodge development in Bury St Edmunds recently welcomed the charity Hourglass to a special ‘Raise a Cup’ event to help build awareness of the challenges many older people face, and highlight ways to combat these issues.

Hourglass’ Community Fundraising Manager Penny Wilby joined Churchill Colleagues and apartment Residents on Thursday 31st July for coffee and cake in Liberty Lodge’s comfy Residents’ Lounge to talk about Hourglass’ work as the only UK-wide charity dedicated to safer ageing.

Churchill’s new long-term partnership with Hourglass will see £400,000 of funding donated to the charity through the Churchill Foundation over the coming years, helping to strengthen the essential services Hourglass provides, including its 24/7 helpline and extensive network of frontline teams.

Commenting on the Raise a Cup event, Penny Wilby said: “I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the staff and Residents at Liberty Lodge and talking to them about how Hourglass is fighting to combat the abuse and exploitation of older people. It’s a fight we can’t win on our own, so we need companies and individuals to help us wherever they can. That’s why it’s great to have not just the financial support Churchill is providing, but also the backing of so many people who live and work in developments like Liberty Lodge.”

Lodge Manager Silke David added: “Our developments are more than just places to live, they’re warm, welcoming communities where people look out for one another. This event was a perfect opportunity to celebrate this, and to talk about the importance of connection and safety for the over 60s.”

Liberty Lodge is a collection of stylish and energy-efficient one and two bedroom retirement apartments boasting spacious rooms throughout and available to buy now. Considerately designed with the over 60s in mind, it comes with the benefits of a sociable Residents’ Lounge,

a Guest Suite for friends and family to stay, a Lodge Manager to oversee things, and a 24-hour emergency Careline service. It’s proving popular with local over 60s looking to make the most of the independence, security, friendship and peace of mind it offers.
